Speaking for

Speaking for the most vulnerable

From the moment of conception a unique, separate and real human life has been created. In New Zealand, this can be a time of great anxiety and approximately one in four of these lives ends in abortion – at great cost. Abortion means that a child conceived is never born and a woman once pregnant has lost a child.

Our vision is for a nation which is safe for all its people from conception until natural death.

The Unborn – “Advocating for the right to life”

The decision to deliberately end a pregnancy is life-changing for everyone.

Key Issue: ABORTION

  • From the moment of conception, every person is entitled to the most fundamental of all human rights – the right to life
  •  Abortion (the deliberate termination of a pregnancy) ends the life of an actual, unique person
  • The decision to ‘kill the child to save the mother’ is a very serious matter and should be a medical procedure of the last resort
  • Voice for Life speaks for the unborn against the horror of ‘abortion for social convenience

Abortion Laws in New Zealand – Abortion and the Crimes Act

The Old or Infirm“Seeing the dignity in all human life”

Key issue: EUTHANASIA

  • Many people find the effects of disability or chronic illness intolerable – either for themselves or others
  • Advances in medicine and pain management can relieve much physical discomfort
  • Everyone, no matter what their human condition, makes a contribution to humanity and cannot be judged simply in terms or economic or intellectual usefulness
  • Voice for Life speaks for those who face the effects of age or infirmity, and regards everyone as a valid person in society.

Families  - “Here for you, for life”

Key issue: PARENTAL NOTIFICATION

  • Everyone in a family is important
  • The roles and responsibilities of each individual within a family will change over time, but the right to belonging and to love are on-going
  • Parents have a right to know if their children are placed in danger
  • Voice for Life speaks for families and supports their influential role in the social development of our nation

Women’s Health – “Knowing the options and understanding the consequences”

Key Issue: INFORMED CONSENT

  • Many woman go through with an abortion believing this to be ‘in their best interests’ without understanding the risks to their physical and mental health
  • Physical risks include bleeding (haemorrhaging) and sterility, placenta-previa in subsequent pregnancies and an increased likelihood of developing breast cancer
  • Mental health risks include clinical depression and an increased likelihood of drug or alcohol dependency or abuse
  • Voice for Life speaks for the right of the woman to have access to accurate information when making life choices

Bio-ethics  - “Understanding the humanity of bio-technology”

Key issue: SOCIAL ENGINEERING

  • Scientific experimentation , particularly the creation and use of embryos which involve the deliberate destruction of human life, is immoral
  • Using the remains of aborted foetuses for research is no justification for abortion and cannot be condoned by Voice for Life
  • Research methodology must be consistent with protecting human life, e.g. stem cells are present in adult tissue, and can be safely used in research without endangering the life of an embryo or foetus
  • The ability to engineer society by deliberately choosing or rejecting genetic traits is a dangerous premise for scientific endeavour
  • Voice for Life speaks for a clear understanding of the humanity involved in scientific development
